I'm happy to announce the first book of my travels around Shikoku visiting the Ohenro temples has been translated in to English and is now available on Amazon.
The 88 temples by Motorcyle - Summer (English Edition)
It's the first of three books detailing my account of three unforgettable motorcycle journeys I made over the course of 2016 and 2017 to visit all 88 temples.
I recount the wonderful (and challenging times!) I had undertaking it as well as some of the memorable people I met a long the way.
Unlike most books in English about the Ohenro this is neither a travel guide per se nor a book focusing on it's history. Rather it's a book full of emotion and reflection as the miles pass by travelling from one temple to another.
To help you better immerse yourself in the pilgrimage and the beauty of the temples it is full of wonderful photographs which I hope convey the true beauty and spirit of the temples as well as the island of Shikoku.
The original Japanese edition inspired many to undertake the pilgrimage themselves and I hope it does the same for you so you too can experience this magical 1000 year old tradition that is still going strong to this day!
ようやく待ちに待った「バイクDEお遍路 第一章」英訳版が完成しました。
なんだろうこの達成感、霧が全て晴れた感覚・・・飛び跳ねたい気持ちを早朝から必死に抑えました。
英語は文字数が日本語と全く違うこともあり、ページ数が増えたりレイアウトを変更したりと本当に大変でした。
表現の仕方に苦戦することも幾度となくあったのですが、ネイティブスピーカーの協力のもと、こうして今日無事に出版することができました。
226ページにも及ぶ翻訳は精神的にも体力的にも本当に大変で、長い道のりでした。
執筆って長距離走に似ている気がする・・・
しかし翻訳始め、レイアウトやデザインのアドバイス、表現の方法など、そこには多くの友人の協力がありました。一人では成し遂げられなかった。それだけは断言できます。
人生、振り返ればピンチの時には常に助けてくれる誰かがいました。
助けられるたびに、人は一人では生きていけないんだなと思わされました。
今日こうして世界の人々に日本の文化を発信することができたのは、そういった周りに人たちからのサポートがあったからこそ。
いつもサポートしてくれる友人や家族に心から感謝の気持ちを伝えたいです。

今後は日本語の第二章の出版に挑むわけですが、全ての日本語版と英訳版が終われば、フランス語やスペイン語、中国語などの出版も計画中です。
母国語でなくても英語の勉強にもなると思うので、是非読んでみてください。
